For nearly a year, we've been working on a new collection of commemorative objects in honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. We wanted to create a collection of hand-wrought pewter housewares inspired by the understated and elegant utilitarian objects of colonial America that we love, and the democratic ideals we all share. Our inspiration was initially drawn from historic objects from the time of the American Revolution like the No Stamp Act Teapot, which was made in Britain for American homes, as many in Britain were sympathetic to the arbitrary and unfair system of tariffs. These 18th century teapots were simple and elegant with beautiful typography, but most of all we loved the idea of an object with inspiring messaging that could promote engaging conversation when gathering with family and friends.
We've engraved these colonial inspired pieces with phrases ranging from revolutionary war battles, Thomas Jefferson, contemporary popular culture, and even Schoolhouse Rock, all which feel as pertinent today as they must have 250 years ago as they do now. Huzzah!
